VT would get job boom out of Home Star energy bill

Vermont's lone representative to the U.S. House said today in Springfield that a bill designed to make homes more energy efficient would help create jobs.

Peter Welch says the Home Star Energy Retrofit Act being considered by Congress would create 170,000 jobs nationally in construction, retail and manufacturing.  •  Welch spoke Monday in Springfield at a plant operated by JELD-WEN, a company that makes energy efficient doors. The company owns another plant in Ludlow. The two plants collectively employ 213 people in Vermont.  •  Welch says Home Star would help improve 3 million homes and save families $10 billion in energy costs over 10 years.  •  Welch says the act is due to be voted on by the U.S. House on Thursday.  •
