10 for the 10th in ’10 is how it’s being billed. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Springfield Hospital Challenge golf tournament in 2010, organizers have added 10 new features to what is already one of the premier benefit tournaments in the region.
Besides the excellent amenities of beautiful Okemo Valley Golf Club in Ludlow, golfers have always received a special gift in addition to a box lunch at registration, complimentary refreshments on the course, and a post-event buffet.
At this year’s birthday edition each golfer will also receive a one-of-a-kind clock made of local marble by Vermont Stoneworks of Chester. Golfers will receive a sparking cider toast on the 10th tee (in prepration for having to putt with a hospital crutch on the 10th green).
There are more team prizes, separated into flights, and trophies are specially designed and donated by NBC Solid Surfaces. And of course there will be a birthday cake for all.
All of this plus the usual hole-in-one prizes on all par 3 holes, including $25,000 cash and a new vehicle. A putting contest is a chance to win a cash prize plus there are prizes for longest putt and straightest drive. Raffles make sure that everyone goes home a winner.
A four-player scramble, the Springfield Hospital Challenge has a shotgun start at 12:30 pm on Thursday, September 23. Players can enter as a team or as individuals. The entry fee for this fundraiser is $150 per person.
The proceeds from this year’s tournament will help support Springfield Medical Care System’s new Community Health Center in Springfield in the renovated Fellows Building.
To enter or sponsor the 10th annual Springfield Hospital Challenge, call Larry Kraft, Director of the SMCS Foundation, at 885-7644 or lkraft@springfieldmed.org .
