There were no voting lines this morning at Riverside School but the steady trickle of incoming voters should add up to a respectable turnout by the time polls close at 7 p.m.
Until today, Vermont had always held its primary contest elections in September. Some had concerns that holding the primary this early might lower voter turnout since we're still in summer vacation season. Hot, muggy summer weather could discourage some as much as heavy rain. But the weather for this first August Primary couldn't have been nicer, a very comfortable 70 degrees with a frequent gentle breeze and shade provided by mostly cloudy skies.
Among those standing outside to greet arriving voters this morning were State Representatives Alice Emmons and Cynthia Martin, running unopposed on the Democrat Windsor district 1-1 ballot. Paul Gibbs and Elizabeth Cuppola, candidates for State Representive on the Windsor district 1-2 Republican ballot. Volunteers held signs for candidates Matt Dunne, John Campbell, Bryan Shohet, and Keith Stern.
