Auto accident in town square

A 41 year old Springfield woman is facing charges of DUI after a 3 car chain reaction accident at the downtown 4-way intersection Tuesday shortly before 6 pm.

Instead of coming to a full stop behind 2 cars stopped for a red light, the pick-up truck she was driving continued in motion, hitting the car in front of it with enough force to drive it into the next car in line. When the woman got out of her vehicle to check that everyone was okay, the truck hit the car a second time. She had neglected to shift into park before getting out of the car.

Police soon arrived and administered a roadside breathalyzer test to the driver which indicated a blood alcohol level of .212, almost triple the legal limit. She was cited and released to appear in Windsor Superior Court at a later date.

The occupants of the car she hit included two children but fortunately no one involved in the accident sustained any injuries.
