Dubie Comes to Town • A great day for Springfield, as Lt. Governor and gubernatorial candidate Brian Dubie walked the downtown for part of his jobs tour. Brian started off by gathering a crowd at Apron Strings Cafe where he met 26 year old owner Jenevieve Johnson and congratulated her on a lovely shop and being so community minded. Brian brought a stream of followers as he visited Black River Used Books and long time Springfielder Bill Mattoon. Brian swapped some hearty military stories with Bill and headed to the chamber of commerce for a picture with the Simpson's. Next on the list was one of Springfield's oldest businesses, founded in 1828, Lawrence and Wheeler. Brian was caught in a very candid moment with brother's Paul and Bob Kendall as they asked Brian to produce his challenge coin. This is the coin that airline pilots carry at all times, and if they are challenged to produce it and cannot they owe the challenger a beer. Sound's like the Kendall brothers have a frosty cold round coming their way. Brian finished his tour with a stop to see two long time employees of the John Duff optometrist, Gail and Sharon and finally to Electric Sunshine. It was a beautiful day despite the rain and the entire walk was punctuated with many honks and waves of support from passersby.
