Rushton leads Cosmos past the Bulldogs, 4-3

In Manchester, Jill Rushton scored with just over two minutes to play in the driving rain to break at 3-3 deadlock and power Springfield to a 4-3 MVL field hockey victory over Burr and Burton, chalking up the first win of the season for the Cosmos.

http://www.rutlandherald.com/article/20100917/SPORTS/709179917                                     Rushton leads Cosmos past the Bulldogs, 4-3                                      Rutland Herald Staff Reports - Published: September 17, 2010                                            In Manchester, Jill Rushton scored with just over two minutes to play in the driving rain to break at 3-3 deadlock and power Springfield to a 4-3 MVL field hockey victory over Burr and Burton, chalking up the first win of the season for the Cosmos.   •                                                                          Maria Stern scored two goals for the Cosmos, while Sarah Trombley added one and Jesse Haskell and Rushton dished up an assist apiece as the Cosmos evened their record at 1-1.    •    “It feels great to get that first one; the girls played really well,” Cosmos’ coach Bindy Hathorn said.     •      Jess Door tallied a pair of goals and Piper Ferrone added a single tally for BBA. But the Bulldogs, try as they might, could not score the equalizer.     •     “We put on the pressure but we just couldn’t score late in the game,” said coach Lynne Sanders, whose Bulldogs fell to 0-3.     •     The Bulldogs take on Brattleboro at home Monday, while Springfield travels to Fair Haven Monda     •
