Pot pipe sparks house fire

A Springfield family has had to leave their home after the pot-smoking son accidently set fire to his bedroom.

The Springfield Fire Department received a call from John Babcock around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday reporting a fire in his home at 10 Hillside Road.

Investigators say the son, Philip, admits he left a pot pipe in his bedroom on his bed and then left the room.

Estimated damage to the house is $35,000.

Springfield Police are investigating the incident.

      @ above anon.
This site writes and re-posts stories about individuals that did not need to be printed to start with.

The way the title reads 'pot pipe' AS IF IT MATTERS ? A fire is an aweful thing to have happen to anybody regardless of the reason.

      * and there is no author named... pure feed from the admin. A tastless choice of an article.
only contributing to the appearence of delinquency for Springfield here.

What a disapointment this blogspot has turned out to be.

Clearly the INDIVIDUAL POLITICAL VIEWS AND SOCIAL BLINDNESS OF THE ADMINISTRATORS are tainting the value of what could have been a good blogspot.

Oh well, nothing worth returning to this site for

    3. The Admin is only doing what they feel is right. Ever hear of the 1st Amendment? Freedom of speech? They are writing about a town that is going to the dumps. You dont like what they write stop reading.

    4. The TOWN fire department got called. They are our firemen and we should be aware of what they face. What a horrible situation for the family, and the town. The fire fighters have sensors to detect the heat spots externally. Knowing the reason for the fire (chemical/stove/cigarette) allows them to make a plan. We were thankful for their calm efficiency when we had a slight problem.

A better title would have read "smoking in bed" instead of "pot pipe"

  8. Why is he being referred to as a "kid hiding in the bedroom"?? This is a GROWN MAN with 2 children! Irresponsible?? YES!! Regardless of what it was, he still started a fire endangering everyone in that house.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Exactly, he isnt kid!! He's like 29 or 30 years old. And he has 2 kids, NEITHER of Which that he helps support. Why? Because he's too busy spending money on pot to burn his parents house down.
His parents should be kicking themselves for not giving him the boot 10 years ago.

  9. Disgustingly, there are dozens of other Philip Babcocks in Springfield. Lazy, irresponsible, unemployed, twenty somethings that are content to perpetually sponge off their parent's self guilt and endless unemployment benefits. Many like this fine example, have Fathered multiple, bastard children. Children that grow up in a system of state assistance and increased needs so common of the single parent household.

This culture of undesirables never existed a couple generations ago. What has changed is a liberal minded tolerance of "acceptance." Time to reinstill the element of SHAME. As an honest, hard working taxpayer, that's sick of financing this parasite and his spawn, don't hesitate to snub or publically humiliate these folks at every opportunity. And don't forget their families that enable the behavior.

    1. For your information, one of the children of Phillip Babcock is raised by a well educated, hard working, responsible mother who does not receive a DIME of the the states assistance. Before you go and bash innocent parties of this situation GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT...

      Delete
    2. Agreed!! No public assistance on her part at ALL!! She is hard working and extremely responsible!! Facts are needed on your part "Next Selectman", they're called FACTS. And please, they're not "bastard children". That term is offensive and I now you're intelligent enough to use other language.

    3. *know you're intelligent enough*

    4. Next Selectman you are an uneducated, narrow minded idiot. I was a single mother for many years due to divorce. I never received any money from my ex husband. I worked hard, made personal sacrifices and did not take ANY support from anyone. I am a successful professional women who has a son that is college educated, financially secure and bought and paid for a home in full by age 30th. For you to insinuate that all single parents are leaches and take advantage of the welfare system is insulting and ignorant. Sounds like being raised by two parents did nothing for you!

    5. Thankfully you are the rare exception. But the facts speak otherwise. Please check them yourself.

Children raised in single-mother homes 'are five times more likely to commit suicide, nine times more likely to drop out of high school, 10 times more likely to abuse chemical substances, 14 times more likely to commit rape (for the boys), 20 times more likely to end up in prison, and 32 times more likely to run away from home.' Single motherhood is like a farm team for future criminals and social outcasts.

  11. Dear Your Next Selectman,
I have a Doctorate in Psychology, and you are a perfect specimen of a human that suffers from grave emotional disorders. You are bankrupt and void of spirit, and instead of focusing your energy on anger and resentment towards society, go take a long hard look in the mirror. Then, grab a piece of paper and sit down and write about yourself, and what kind of person you are. Really dig deep, because my heart feels for you, May Jesus bless your heart and soul.

  13. @psychology doctor...... your banter, while making you look smart, had no bearing on the original issue. The IDIOT smoked POT and burned his parents house. He endangered many lifes. Do you recall the last time there was a major fire in Springfield? The movie theater? A bunch of people were displaced living in the community center.

      Well said.

The idiot who burnt the Movie theater wasn't smoking pot.

and you forgot a serious fire by 100 River St that killed an man and the family pets. Also not smoking Pot.

and as a fire can happen without pot... 'Your next selectman' has the ability to speak and write well without everyone adding their thoughts and or a label.
the other side of the coin? = "where there is smoke there is fire"

I am voting for your next selectman.

  14. People really should do their research before spoutin off. Phillip is 29 w two kids. He helps to support one w/ a hardworking teacher, and the other he has had full custody of since the age of 1. She is now 5. He has been doing so without seeing a dime from the mother. Now you have some knowledge. Phil made a mistake and i know he is very sorry for it. Keep your head up Phil!!! F the haters!!!

      3. Get caught smoking weed
      4. To be the laughing stock of Springfield of all places.
I dont know him nor do I care to know him.

SHAME ON YOU PHIL....SHAME. You are a person who obviously does NOT lead your children by example, a person who ENDANGERED his family and firefighters (weed or no weed), a person who got caught and publicly humiliated.

Grow up and take responsibility for your actions.
