Posted on April 1, 2012 | Leave a comment
A very appreciative audience of 145 people welcomed the Springfield Community Chorus, a group of about 40 singers, to its first appearance in Ludlow this past Saturday, March 31. The Chrous, now in its 45th year of bringing choral music to the Springfield, Vermont, area, entertained the audience with operatic and Broadway music. This is the first year they have been invited to sing at the newly refurbished Ludlow Town Hall Auditorium. Chorus Director, Ken Olsson, in his second season with the Chorus, and the chorus excelled at their favorite kind of music – opera and musicals. The piano accompanist was Vladimir Odinokikh, playing the classic upright grand piano in the auditorium. Among the musical treats enjoyed by an audience offerring frequent standing ovations were opera choruses from “Pilgrim’s Chorus” from Tannhauser, by Wagner; “Anvil Chorus” from Il Trovatore by Verdi; “Butterfly’s Entrance” from Madame Butterfly by Puccini; “The Easter Chorus” from Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni. The Chorus also sang songs from Hello Dolly, The Music Man, West Side Story, and Les Miserables. Based on the performance, Chorus Director Olsson enquired if FOLA would be interested in sponsoring its presentation of Mozart’s Requiem next March.
The concerts are free to the public and donations are accepted.
