With Green Up Day right around the corner (Saturday, May 5th), keep your eyes peeled for large or potentially hazardous items of trash, especially in or around the river or streams. The Black River Action Team (BRAT) will be gathering this information and working with the State of Vermont's Agency of Natural Resources to make sure the items are removed and disposed of properly, by the most appropriate organizations. You can relay information to me, BRAT Director Kelly Stettner, by calling (802) 885-1533 or by sending email to me at blackrivercleanup@yahoo.com; be sure to include what you found and where it's located, as well as your name and contact information in case we have questions or need clarification.

Entitled "A Ten Question Quiz About Bats," this one will have participants a-flutter learning about those fuzzy critters, their amazing abilities, and the dangers they face. Genzlinger, a "bat advocate," speaks to schools and community groups, sharing his enthusiasm and fascination with bats and their value to our ecosystem. The program, co-sponsored by the Springfield Garden Club, is free to members and only $8 for non-members. Membership in the Osher Institute is just $40 for the semester, and includes entrance to all 9 programs as well as admittance to the other 7 Osher Institutes around the state of Vermont.
