Union Street School 5th graders honored by Elks

Springfield Elks Lodge #1560 held their annual "Drug Awareness" poster contest recently. Elks chairman, Jim Kirkwood, received a record fifty posters from the Union Street School fifth graders. One of the participants, Laken Mooney was a Vt. Elks State Winner. That means that her poster will be published in a Drug Awareness coloring book, distributed throughout the country.

Winners for the fifth grade boys were, Ian Treadway 1st place, Austin Rowe 2nd place and Jeremy Curfman 3rd place. For the girl winners, Laken Mooney 1st place locally and she won a new bike for being a state winner. Hannah Presch placed 2nd and Taylor Mae Cole was 3rd.

This is the 26th year that Jim Kirkwood has been Springfield Elks chairman for this event.
