Man dies in I-91 single-car crash, passenger surives

A fatal single-car accident happened Friday evening between Springfield and Ascutney.

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 91 southbound in Springfield, VT. Moody was traveling south when he lost control of his vehicle and went off the road. The vehicle traveled back onto the road and rolled over multiple times. Moody was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle, and was trapped underneath it. Troopers and bystanders were able to remove him from the vehicle and perform CPR until rescue personnel arrived. He was transported to Springfield Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The passenger in the vehicle, Lee Godden, was transported to Springfield Hospital with unknown injuries.

Witness statements were obtained at the scene, and both southbound lanes were closed during rescue operations.

Springfield Fire Department, Ascutney Fire Department, Golden Cross Ambulance, Weathersfield Police, and the Dept of Liquor Control responded and assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. Based on preliminary information, it appears that speed and alcohol were factors. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact State Police.
