Sheriff collects prescription drugs
WINDSOR COUNTRY — The Windsor County Sheriff’s Department reports a record 195 pounds of unwanted or expired prescription drugs were collected on Sept. 29, National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
Residents from around the county turned out in large numbers and disposed of the drugs in a safe and secure manner, they said. Hartford Police Department topped the list with 65.2 pounds collected, while the Windsor Police Department was a close second at 58.6 pounds.
Other towns and departments include Pierce Hall Community Center in Rochester, 4.4 pounds; Bethel/Royalton Transfer Station, 6.6 pounds; Weathersfield Transfer Station, 6.6 pounds; Chester Police Department, 4.2 pounds; Ludlow Police Department, 9 pounds; Woodstock Police Department, 10.4 pounds; and Springfield Police Department, 30 pounds.
“It was another good Take-Back Day,” Windsor County Sheriff Mike Chamberlain said. “We thank everyone who participated in the program and utilized the sites for getting rid of their prescription drugs.”
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.
