Springfield Hosts 30th Annual Apple Festival & Craft Show
Submitted by VT Journal on Tue, 10/02/2012 - 5:26pm
SPRINGFIELD, VT -For three decades, Springfield has made Columbus Day weekend a time of community celebration. Hundreds of visitors flock to the Apple Festival in annual pilgrimage. This year’s Apple Festival will be an all-day affair, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012.
With more than 50 crafters and artisans to choose from, nearly all Festival attendees get a head start on their holiday shopping. This is a great opportunity for area residents to support the local economy and for visitors to the region to take home a unique Vermont-made item. Offerings include jewelry, wooden products, fleece items, floral arrangements, sweaters, quilts, ceramics, and much, much more. There are genuine beeswax candles, handmade soaps, and jams preserved in country kitchens. Local authors will be onsite offering signed copies of their books. One can surprise a loved one with anything from a kilt to a dog quilt!
Families can take in some old-fashioned fun while listening to area musicians. Carnival games offer a challenge for older children, while younger children can delight in the bouncy house, pet an animal, take a pony ride, or “kiss” Louise the donkey. Children can start Halloween a little early with face painting.
An abundance of soul-warming food is one of the hallmarks of the Apple Festival. Chowder, chili, Italian sausages, fried bread dough…No one needs to go home hungry! Festival-goers can enjoy apple crisp for dessert or buy a pie to take home. The entire Springfield Farmer’s Market will also be part of the Festival, providing the opportunity to stock up on fresh local produce and baked goods before the weather turns colder.
In another annual tradition, local pie bakers will drop their creations off in the morning for the noontime judging of pies. Judging will be done by representatives from the Springfield High School, Fire and Police departments. The Pie Baking Contest will give prizes for both the Best Traditional and Best Original pies
Event sponsors include VTel, Susan Dana & Associates, Springfield Savings & Loan, HB Energy Solutions, and Wellwood Orchards.
Admission is free and the Festival is rain or shine, so there is no excuse why one shouldn’t come and join in the fun! Springfield is the place to be on October 6 for the ANNUAL VERMONT APPLE FESTIVAL AND CRAFT SHOW.
