glad we have money to give away.
ReplyDeletehow about forgiving the elderly and working folks their property taxes?!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAmen!
DeleteAMEN! The working class and elderly taxpayers are the ones getting screwed.
DeleteAll this for a Movie Theater???
ReplyDeletePure hubris.
ReplyDeleteapparently this is money the town doesn't need but if the town does't need money why the increase in property tax?
ReplyDeleteI wish my mortgage company would "forgive" my loan.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone actually read the article the town did not give away anything. All that was done was loans with a 2% interest were dropped to a loan with 0%
ReplyDeleteHey nidget 2:32, if you actually could read you would have noticed the following:
ReplyDelete"In a 4-0 vote, the Springfield Select Board agreed to change the original $50,000 loan to a grant."
That means pure forgiveness of that loan. The interest rate change that your illiteracy failed to allow you to understand applied to another loan, not the one on the theater.
What year did you attempt to graduate from SHS?
Wow really good at calling each other names. You did note that the loan which was converted to a grant was to the Public Housing Authority? Not a private citizen, and but for the intervention of the Housing Authority we would no longer have a theater?
Deleteyour question re: attempting to graduate from SHS is a good reflection on the quality of education here!!!
DeleteSo you'd no longer have a theater. Is that so bad, Ass Jack? If there were a viable market, then a new theater would have materialized. But, as usual, Springfield's only solution is to subsidize everything with taxpayers' dollars in the quest for utopia on the banks of the Black River -- but never even coming close to achieving it. But what the heck, progressive losers don't have enough savvy to win in the free market, so they must devise ways to confiscate more of others' money just to implement their master plan for mediocrity; which, by the way, continues to fail miserably in Springfield in spite of all the wasteful spending!
DeleteI have netflix. Sit home, relax, big screen TV, nice and cozy.
ReplyDeleteSpringfield has this thing about money. We're going to get what we deserve: Debt.
We can't afford to lose any more businesses in downtown Springfield. The people who are running the theatre are doing a good job. How about everyone stops complaining and goes out to enjoy a movie?
ReplyDeleteWill there be FREE ADMISSION? I mean, really, given all the hyperbole of how important a "theater" is to the economic vitality of the downtown, why not just offer FREE ADMISSION every night and watch the economy BOOM! Or not. Guess we better not try that or another liberal lie will be blatantly exposed!
DeleteAurora, Colorado comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteHead's up Blog admin and Springfiekd Police. Anon at 11:22 is either threatening or advocating a shooting at the theater. Get that down and find that jerk and throw the book at them.
ReplyDeleteThe commenter in question posted his questionable remark from Springfield, Vt. using a PC with screen resolution 1184x888 and Windows XP installed and Internet Explorer 8 for a browser. He got to this blog by typing springfieldvtblog into the Bing search engine. His IP address is 209.134.38.213 but only his internet service provider can translate that number into a name and street address and they only will do that upon request of law authorities.
Deletewow, that was really helpful "admin".
DeleteI am pretty sure i know exactly who it is based on the screen resolution
Maybe if you made people register with their facebook or gmail account you might be able to raise the level of discourse on this site.
hahaha he uses bing...It is always the bing users that are the psychos.
DeleteDuring the first three years of this news blog, only registered users could post comments on here. We were lucky if we got one comment a month then. In 2010, we tried removing that restriction. Commenting soon became commonplace while readership shot up by 600%! So it appears most blog readers would rather refrain from posting comments than have to register first yet at the same time prefer visit blogs that have a lot of reader comments. What's a blogger to do?
DeleteIt is not possible to post here through Facebook. A pity since many are probably already logged into Facebook by the time they make it over to this site for the latest local news.
So it is all about readership, which in turn means revenue from advertising like your anti-smart meter campaign, rocket stove, and rutland herald ads?
DeleteSo instead of forcing people to register you will continue to allow them to spew hate, inaccuracies, and personal attacks?
You have never heard of the first amendment?
DeletePaid advertising has never appeared on this site. I don't want to be in the position of having to restrict free speech in any way because it might offend some paid advertiser. Besides, how much money could there be selling advertising in a blog that only appeals to the limited audience of people interested in Springfield Vermont happenings? All the stuff in the right column where other blogs feature paid advertising is just filler here. Links to articles, causes, and what-not that I think deserve more attention than the main stream media has given them.
DeleteVery informative post.
DeleteThank you douche boy.
Thank you for posting a positive or polite critical comment.
Delete7:06, it's the price of democracy. Nobody ever said that just because we were born in America, we have to be informed before we participate in the public discourse. That's a requirement we only impose on immigrants who want to become Americans.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for readership and ad revenues-- that is the basis of almost all American media. It sounds like you are ready to learn about media literacy.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteFYI, before the "Springfield Housing Authority" is thought to be a "public" housing authority please look into it. It is really a private agency with a fancy name. Can we say "pull the wool over our eyes"?
FYI: Delve really deep and you will see the truth. Dont take their answers, look into the paperwork.
Wrong, Housing Authorities in Vermont are public entities established by statute. You don't need to delve any deeper than the State Statutes. They are created by statute as public entities and as such are given powers that can only be wielded by public agencies. Anonymous 9:54 you are the one who needs to look into it.
DeleteIn order for the police department to check in on this foolish, but non-criminal comment (regarding Aurora, CO), we would need a subpoena to get VTEL's records (I checked with VTEL tech support). As there was no crime committed, the chance of getting a Subpoena signed by a judge... 0%. If there was an actual threat, whereas someone directly threatened to go and cause physical harm anywhere, we could however look into that.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anthony for being on top of this!
Deleteand the first amendment doesnt cover direct threats to cause harm to the public. In Vermont it would be considered Disorderly Conduct by Telephone.
ReplyDeleteIf one wishes to get one's point across to others who may have a different opinion, adding insults and veied threats is really the most damaging thing one can do to impeach their own credibility.
ReplyDeleteAnyway- This town has the most screwed up priorities I've ever seen. Thousands of dollars spent on silly initiatives like coming up with a 'town logo' and motto. Any subsidy of the movie theater is absolutely misguided. As nice as the people there are, it's just not what public money should pay for.
Meanwhile, we have a depressed town full of low grade criminals and welfare cases yet we pay one of the highest property tax percentages. REAL businesses that generate a lot more employment and revenue can't get a break in this town. I tried to employ more people and expand a business here- but now we are leaving and taking our businesses (two of them) to another state this Spring.
I'm not going to let the town that is swirling around the toilet take me down when it flushes completely.
Thank you to Detective Moriglioni for chiming in. He's one of the few exceptions around here, doing a great job for the community.
I like how people blame their business failures on the community.
ReplyDeleteIf it's a good business, with a solid plan, you would make it work. Seriously doubt that your "two businesses" amounted to much or you would have gotten the support needed to expand.
If your 'business' can't take the impact of a town investing in itself with minimal marketing and a little clean-up, I'm thinking that's something you may need to reflect on a bit more.
Spend your time improving your business, not wallowing in anger that others aren't making it happen for you.
Springfield VT has gone to hell plan and simple. the apartments above the movie theater is managed by the housing authority they are owned by bill morlock who only cares for the money. trust me when i say if you can get out of Springfield VT you should do it not just for your own safety but for your families as well. the police in that town have also turned into the worst police department i have ever seen.
