Outstanding opportunity for both employers and job seekers. Unfortunately, welfare, disability, EBT cards, perpetual charity and sponging off the parental units at 30 years old have become a way of life for thousands of residents. Anyone want to make a guess how many "clients" from HCRS, Voc Rehab, and the U-Turning Point show up?
ReplyDeleteChances are good that not many people show up . It would mean they would have to take a drug test.
ReplyDeletePlus any personthat really wants to work already has a job. My experience is in this job market if you are honest, prompt, and willing o work employers will hire you. Many of my friends own companies and have a tough time getting people to show up after the first paycheck comes .

ReplyDeleteAs an employer, let me add to that, the capacity to follow directions. Adherence to those very basic responsibilities and a positive reference to get you in the door, will keep you gainfully employed. What exists in the local labor pool is a significant population that refuses to take responsibility for anything. Knowing full well the safety net of social services will always be there.
My bet is you don't see a soul at employment fair who receives aid, or with an Obama sticker on their car.
I question you are an employer. For your information people who DO work also support Obama.
DeleteHaving been gainfully employed for the past 35 years, and being an Obama supporter, Anonymous 5:25, if you truly are an employer, I am sure as hell glad you're not mine.
Deleterepost of past post
DeleteTo get me in the door you must first offer me more than the government's handing me in the form of handouts.
ReplyDeleteThat must be great for your self-esteem.
DeleteI'm a liberal, I don't need self-esteem.
DeleteUnfortunately, VT, the US government, and employers who take advantage of a chitty economy and misuse their employees makes it a fact that you are better off unemployed then employed. I am not on assistance but if my money gets taken anymore...my family will have to be. Pride or no pride, it becomes a battle of liveable wage or not. Very sad state to live in.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just a bad state to live in, it's a bad COUNTRY to live in, 7:07. If you're a typical American, your real income over the past 40 years has increased by 4%, or 0.1% per year, while your productivity went up 100%. Not a fair deal, by any means.
DeleteI'll bet you have two working adults in the family, needed in order to make ends meet, and I'll also bet neither one of you has had a raise in the last five years. If you're a family of five, the hourly total of all the workers in the family has to come out to $21.59 in order for you to stay above water. Jobs in Springfield typically offer from $10.59 an hour ("personal care and services") to $37.90 ("management"). I wonder what will be offered at the job fair....
You know what is really sad??? Me and my wife both had good paying jobs but she had to commute to Keene, NH. So we got day care for the kids. After she was working there for 5 months she was forced to quit her job because the $1100 a month for day care plus the cost of gas for her to get to work cost us more money than she was taking home. We were not getting any help from the state with the day care costs. The state told us if she wasn't working that they would pay for the day care. Does that seem right??? So I told them that they had it backwards. They should help the people who really do work and try and make a descent living and not encourage the people to quit their jobs and go on welfare. If people aren't working then why do they need day care??? This government wants people out of work. Now she is a stay at home mom and we are making the same amount as she was when she was working.
