$2 million court house renovations pass
March 07,2013
Rutland Herald
WOODSTOCK — Windsor County voters approved a $2 million bond, 5,412-3,828, to repair the historic courthouse in Woodstock on Tuesday, according to Side Judge David Singer.
There were 148 blank ballots out of 9,388 votes cast, he said.
Side Judges Singer and Jack Anderson said the courthouse needed improvements to continue to operate. According to the judges, the courthouse is not handicap accessible and lacks suitable ventilation, security and fire safety.
According to preliminary project plans drafted by Smith & Vansant Architects of Norwich, the renovations include a two-story 1,250-square-foot addition, a life-safety egress staircase, accessible entrance, and an elevator.
Other additions include a new holding cell, metal detectors and an integrated security system. The new additions would also allow civil, probate, family and criminal cases to be heard in Woodstock to ease the workload for other county facilities, the side judges said.
