Cosmos beat Jacks in opener
SOFTBALL
Springfield 16, Windsor 3
WINDSOR — KK Haskell belted two doubles and drove in five runs as the Cosmos won their opener. Springfield, a Division II powerhouse, got nine strikeouts in five innings from winning pitcher Heather Sanborn and the Cosmos offense took advantage of Ashley Bly’s control problems.
“They’re solid from top to bottom,” said Windsor coach Phil Hathorn. “They should have a real good season.”
Chelsea McAllister had three hits and scored five times for the Cosmos.
Mariah Marsh pitched well in relief for the Yellow Jackets, who got a single, triple and RBI from Haley Wood, and a hit and two runs from Nikki Kibling.
Tierra Huntley had a fine game at third base for the Jacks, who will host Stevens on Monday.
