Child Abuse???? What's next, a mosquito bite gets DCF at your front door???
Perhaps this has gone untreated for a significant amount of time by the parents and was reported by a doctor or nurse at a school. I would consider that child abuse.
DeleteIt is great that the PD releases this information, but there is very little information to jump to conclusions.
Perhaps it was treated but the topical solution did not work? Maybe the Dr needs to prescribe oral medication? Either way, bugs don't warrant child abuse. Neglect maybe but abuse?

Well written Warren. If a parent knows about a bed bug infestation/dangerous chemicals, within the house or apartment, then does nothing to prevent malady... That's abuse or neglect.

ReplyDeleteNo need for a child to have head lice Anonymous 8:55. Wash your darn kid! Thats neglect. It takes a while for a kid to develop head lice. Upon further investigation it may turn out that the living conditions are in such a way they can be harmful to the development of the kid. Head lice = disgusting living conditions.

DeleteOne of my kids got headlice from another kid at school. Our house, while not immaculate isn't dirty either.
DeleteHead lice can be easily picked up any place where a louse-infested (one louse is sufficient) garment touches another or another person. Seven days after the louse lays eggs, they hatch. During this time, no amount of washing is guaranteed to loosen and remove the eggs from the hairs to which they are attached. Seven days or so after they hatch, those lice lay eggs. it is quite likely that the condition has not yet been noticed by the average parent, especially if the parents maintain such high standards of cleanliness they have no reason to suspect they have a case of head lice. When the second generation hatches out, it is quite likely to be noticed.
ReplyDeleteStandard treatment is a shampoo with a compound toxic enough not to be risked a second time in a week, combing out the laid eggs ("nits") every day after the shampoo and checking for any new nits a week after the shampoo. If they are found, repeat the shampoo and the combing.
If the problem persists, the whole household will have to undergo de-lousing-- clothing, bedding, furniture fabric, you name it. I once de-loused a friend's household. As I did the follow-up check of all the family members, a neighbor kid came over to play. I checked that kid's hair and found lice. . .
