I am the Interim Director for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for the Springfield School District. Over the last three years I worked as an Instructional Coach at Springfield High School, which has made significant gains in Reading, Writing, and Math. This year, for the first time in the school's history, the high school students who took the NECAP test equaled the state average in Reading, and we outperformed all but one surrounding area school in Reading and Math. The SHS teachers should be proud of their work to integrate the fundamental skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening into their daily plans.
As the Curriculum Director, I will continue to support our K-12 Curriculum and Instructional alignment. Through Professional Development provided by the University of Pennsylvania's Penn Literacy Network (PLN) we are in the process of building a district-wide framework and language around instruction. It is an exciting time to be a part of the Springfield School District, as we've already seen gains in student achievement.
My commitment to whole school reform is what gets me out of bed each morning, as I hope to play a part in helping the district continue to move in the right direction.
