Earl Laber, 93-year-old WWII Navy veteran, retraces steps on USS Slater


The sun's shine peered through the overcast sky as World War II veteran Earl Laber walked up to the bow of the USS Slater. The Springfield, Vermont native joined the Navy soon after graduating from high school at the height of WWII.

Police looking for help in locating missing Springfield resident

The Chester Police Department has listed a 20-year-old Springfield resident as a missing person and is looking to the public for help in locating him. Brandon Adams-Smith has had no contact with his family in Chester since May and was last seen in Springfield in early June, police said in an appeal for help issued Friday afternoon.

Bellows Falls will mourn loss of educator Barbara Comtois

One person was killed and another was injured in a head-on collision on Route 11, near Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center Wednesday afternoon, according to police. Friends and family confirmed Barbara Comtois, 79, a longtime Bellows Falls resident and former educator, died in the crash.
