Simpsons sixth

It was six years ago today that Springfield Vermont made headlines around the world as the small town that beat out big city Springfields to host the world premiere of The Simpsons Movie.

The link below is a slideshow tribute to the 200 volunteers who appeared in our winning video, most of whom were denied seats at the premiere so the town's elite could attend.

  1. Ugh, this is getting to be an embarrassment. Can we let this go already?

  2. Another meaningless feat being hailed as some sort of notable achievement. And as to the allegation that the "town's elite" displaced others from attending the movie premier is laughable and a true oxymoron -- Springfield elite disappeared decades ago.

  3. The Simpsons are a popular icon which has some traction with young and middle aged folk. It's hipper and more ironic than The Flintstones. It associates Springfield with a VERY successful TV series.

What other popular culture moments have happened in Springfield in the last 50 years?

  4. It associated Springfield VT for 1 night, that was the premier.
Neither Matt Groening nor the show itself has stated Vermont as the location of Springfield. His only reveal (even if by accident) was Springfield Oregon as the location. It seems the only people who are hung-up on Springfield VT as "Home of the Simpsons" are people from Springfield VT. Outside of Springfield people don't really care.
