Weston Playhouse Young Company Singers Share Gifts of Music and Song Posted on 8/25/2013 The Weston Playhouse Young Company singers recently visited the Adult Day Center and performed for participants. Left to right: Conor Guzman, Dan Reardon, Tim Fort, Spencer Kiely, Claire Charland, Mickey Ryan, Clara Cox and Amanda Paige. The Weston Playhouse Young Company singers lit the room with music and song during their recent visit to Springfield Area Adult Day Service. One of many activities designed to overcome isolation and help participants stay socially active and engaged, the Weston singers received a warm welcome, and brought laughter and joy to a packed room. Their visit was entertaining and inspiring -- and smiles erupted, participants enjoyed sing-along songs, and background humming filled the air. Springfield Area Adult Day Service is an alternative to residential care for many family members with seniors or disabled adults over the age of 18 who face the challenge of losing their independence. Physically- or cognitively-impaired adults are provided a structured program of social activities and needed healthcare that includes a variety of health, social, and supportive services in a safe, protective environment. "Our staff is highly-skilled, and trained to meet the special needs of our participants," comments JoAnne Bohen, Director of the Adult Day Service. She continues, "As our population ages, increasing numbers of families are caring and supporting aging loved ones. We are here to offer help and support to families whose loved ones may be living with Alzheimer's, ambulatory restrictions, confusion, dementia, frailty, incontinence, Parkinson's, strokes and heart attack, or who may be socially isolated." Springfield Area Adult Day Service is a service of Springfield Hospital. The program is located at 266 River Street in Springfield, VT and is open Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am - 4:30 pm. Some Saturday hours are also available. Nutritious meals and snacks, recreation, personal care, and medical oversight are some of the services provided. Transportation is available and those needing financial assistance are invited to call for a personal consultation. For more information or a free visit, please contact JoAnne Bohen, Director, at 802-885-9881, or e-mail Jbohen@springfieldmed.org.
