Lawmakers consider expanding electronic monitoring of pretrial detainees

With the number of pretrial detainees far exceeding what the state has budgeted for, lawmakers are seeking ways to reduce the numbers.

  1. Committee Chairwoman Rep. Alice Emmons, D-Springfield, said the aggressive effort to eradicate the drug trade in Vermont will keep the detainee population high.

“If we continue to have drug sweeps throughout the state and there’s high gang activity throughout the state, then it’s fair to say that our high detainee numbers will still be there,” Emmons said.

Yes, Alice, and if you continue to just uselessly sit by on your hind end and not institute the economic and regulatory reforms necessary to improve the business climate in Vermont so that meaningful, well paying jobs can be created for people to lead productive lives, you'll continue to reap a bumper crop of ne'er do wells that have nothing better to do than resort to drug activity and the welfare rolls.

Emmons is part of the problem. Someone with no real world experience who has burrowed into the public sector like a tapeworm feeding off its host. Wise up Springfield and dump her.

  2. Amen anon 3:34!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is not one taxpayer lamenting the cost of keeping these thugs off the street. Yet, Emmons would have them unleashed on the community where they could extract vengeance on their accusers and continue the crimes necessary to support their drug habits.

Emmons is by far, a big part of the problem. As a local business owner funding a payroll, she has never once sought out my or any associate's opinion on the obstacles to improving the economic climate here. Instead, she parks herself at the high rise, senior center, and welfare office. Taking a page from the Bernie Sanders play book, she shrewdly preaches of keeping the pipeline of cash rolling in from Montpelier. Thus insuring a perpetual reelection by a legion of parasites.
