This morning, Congressman Peter Welch gave opening remarks at the Springfield Small Business Health Care forum hosted by the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce and Springfield Regional Development Corporation.
The forum, which was held at the Congregational Church from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m., was to discuss the implementation of health care exchanges, known as Vermont Health Connect.
Director of Health Care Reform Robin Lunge was present to talk about the coming changes and answer questions.
Under the Affordable Care Act, states are required to set up the exchanges, where individuals and businesses with fewer than 50 employees will shop for health insurance. Welch says Vermont is preparing for the changes ahead.
"We are definitely better positioned and it is not necessarily because it is going to be easy, but it is because we are cooperating. You've got employers, individuals and our providers, the Congressional delegation and of course the Governor's office saying, if there are problems, if there are jumps along the road, lets work together, lets listen to the people who are experiencing them and lets see if we can solve them," Welch said.
Following the forum, Welch stopped by Precision Contract Manufacturing in Springfield and Sonnax Industries in Bellows Falls before heading to the King Arthur Flour Groundbreaking Ceremony in Hartford.

So glad they took the time out of their busy schedules to help inform us of the changes. Possibly they do not realize that when you own your own business it is nearly impossible to take time off during the day, especially with the rising cost of health care. I hope I'll be able to find the info I need on the website that is supposed to launch 10/1. For the rest of you small business owners who do not close your doors at the drop of a hat, we are supposed to be able to get the info we need and compare plans at vermonthealthconnect.gov. Thanks again VT for stepping on business owners.
ReplyDeleteDid you get any information from either source that was not available from the other?
DeleteChamber dues < = > real help ?.
DeleteThis is great. Now that EVERYONE will be required to pay "THE" insurance company, these companies will get very rich. Even more so than they are now. I pay my own insurance. Get this, BCBSVT increased my rate for the last six months of this year by $50.00. This is quite the rip off scheme they came up to end our current insurance cost.
ReplyDeleteSo with this new "scheme" where everyone pays, my insurance will cost the same / month for a plan worth half of what it is now (according to the bronze plan). BUT the good side of the picture is that all those addicts around here can now have insurance. Their dealers will be able to afford it.
Sounds like you're singing The Blue State Blues!
DeleteNo actually singing The Green Mountain Big Buck give away. What's your toon ? "Free Ride"
DeleteTwo opposite perspectives on Obamacare:
ReplyDelete#1
Senator Max Baucus confirmed when Obamacare was passed, the genesis of the bill was an “87-page document which became the basis, the foundation, the blueprint from which almost all health care measures in all bills on both sides of the aisle came.”
And who wrote that 87-page white paper? None other than Liz Fowler – who in the two years before the bill was passed and while she was writing the “foundation” for Obamacare, was simultaneously working as Vice President of WellPoint - one of the largest health insurance companies in America.
Baucus profusely thanked Fowler for being personally responsible for crafting Obamacare. Politico described her as a “major player” in getting the bill passed.
#2
Prominent Republican senators have said that ObamaCare was designed to be a disaster, intentionally crafted to bankrupt private insurers and drive people to rely on government completely, all with one goal in mind: universal healthcare. In other words, total government takeover of healthcare, cradle to grave.
Try total takeover of every American life, cradle to grave. Without limits on government, that's exactly what we're going to get.
ReplyDeleteA little good reading if you do not live in Vermont.

"But why do people put their hands in their pockets?
The subconscious mind, which thinks in a primitive way, believes that putting your hands in your pockets is a good way to hide and to avoid the situation."
