Springfield Community Chorus Rehearsal Start-up Submitted by VT Journal on Wed, 09/04/2013 - 8:38am SPRINGFIELD, VT -The Springfield Community Chorus, directed by Kenneth Olsson, will resume rehearsals on Monday evening September 9, 2013 from 7 – 9 p.m. They will be held every Monday until our Christmas concerts on December 7 and 8. Rehearsal is at the Unitarian-Universalist Church, 21 Fairground Rd., Springfield, Vermont. The church, a brown wooden building, is the next building up the hill from Riverside Middle School, on the same side as the school. Music will include Christmas classics such as 3 “Ave Maria” anthems, “O Holy Night”, “Still, Still, Still”, and “Do You hear What We Hear?” We will also be offering lighter fare with several songs by the famous PDQ Bach, otherwise known as Peter Schickele, as well as two spirituals and other songs. There are no auditions for Springfield Community Chorus, but the ability to read music is very helpful, and the ability to sing accurately is necessary. We welcome people for all sections: soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. Dues are $30 for the season, but in cases of hardship, a singer may discuss the situation with our treasurer. Students in high school and older are welcome, and there are no dues for full time students. Both our rehearsal space and our concert spaces are handicapped accessible. There are handicapped parking spaces near the door, in the lower parking lot. Ken Olsson is a masterful director – he’s meticulous about teaching us details of the music, and he works hard on ear training and voice training with us. At the same time, he is cheerful and fun to work with, making rehearsals a bright spot in each singer’s week.
