Is incarceration an alternative to psychiatric treatment

Southern State Correctional Facility is just off the highway in Springfield. One of Vermont's seven prisons, it deals with the largest percentage of inmates with serious mental health concerns.

  1. re: "'When you have an individual who is acutely psychotic or delusional, it's like having five regular inmates. It requires quite a bit of staff resources on the custody side. And it requires quite a bit of resources from our mental health staff and providers."

NO, it does not "REQUIRE" additional anything. The issue is an insane bureaucracy funding jobs to psych majors unable to find work in private practice. So these dolts have found a cash cow in the prison system they can line their pockets with. Immune from any professional scrutiny they can willy-nilly apply their corn ball, re education camp to groom more Obama voters upon release. Reminds me of the famous scene in a Stanley Kubrick movie.

Here's the thing about mental health care of prisoners, I DON'T CARE! Society is far better off with these criminals behind bars.

Wouldn't all these "resources" be better used to restore the lives of their victims? Oh, I forgot, there's no money in that.

  2. Don't know and don't care, as long as they're away from society.

  3. Is the "Southern State Correctional Facility" (aka Springfield Prison) a psychiatric institute or a prison? "Mental health care of prisoners" has become a cottage industry in which the ambiguity of "mental illness" can be exploited by the "counseling" profession (and the wardens of these facilities) for nice payouts to them from the state. The system is corrupt.

  5. First of all the state of Vermont needs to open a MENTAL HOSPITAL to many people with mental health needs are locked in jail! It's like putting a animal in a cage.........also just because someone is mental ill doesn't mean they are dumb!!

I also think there are to many that PLAY the system!!! POOE ME!! POOR ME!!

The state of Vermont needs to treat these inmates as such!! You are locked up because you broke the law!!!! NO COOKOUTS, NO CABLE TV, NO FREE STAMPS!!!! It's unreal what they get, what do we working people get?? We don't get FREE stamps!!!!!

I'm sure the prison STAFF would like a cookout or a break on a gym membership!!! They have to stay in shape to deal with the BEAUTY'S OF VERMONT!!!!!

Come on people OPEN YOUR EYES and START TO DO RIGHT BY THE PEOPLE THAT DO NOT BREAK THE RULES. And go to work everyday!!!!
