CBS News: For uninsured, Obamacare looks like a mixed bag

Tammy Lebarron of Springfield, Vt., is an uninsured Democrat, but she doesn't like the Affordable Care Act, and she thinks it will negatively impact her life.

  1. And Vermont still has a ways to go:
I just wrote my check to the Vermont Health Connect.
Believe soon I (we) will be getting a "Card" and an account number.
The envolope I sent the check in says put your account number on the check. I do not have an account number, which I find amusing since when I used the computer to sign up for coverage I would think that an account number could have be generated during the process, Oh well at least the state of VT is ahead of the rest. Only grip I have is that my plan which costs the same as before is 2 notches down in coverage.

The article implies she is uninsured, and just like me at that age, she will be better off not having to pay any premiums-- until she gets really sick, or pregnant, at which point CBS should re-interview her and see how she likes her government-imposed coverage.

Aside from that, Obamacare in Vermont is just a three-year stopgap we have to suffer until we can do it right with a publicly-funded, universal, accessible, equitable and affordable plan, Green Mountain Care. If Tammy is smart, she'll connect with one of the groups which is working to see it is done right.

If Vermont does this, every state in the Union will follow our lead-- and insurance companies will hate us forever.

    1. "publicly funded" meaning someone else pays for it? Any idea where the money for that is supposed to come from? Because Shumlin sure doesn't.

Jean, your CAR insurance is publicly funded, but just in a different way. Every time a drunk wipes out somebody else's car, it's YOUR premiums that pay for the damage he/she caused, same as the drunk's premiums chip in when you have a fender bender.

As for where the money is coming from, check next week's Springfield Reporter to understand how America spends like a big country and taxes like a banana republic...
