Hospital patient accused of assault December 12,2013 Rutland Herald Hospital patient accused of assault WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A patient assaulted a nurse in the emergency room at Springfield Hospital, police said. Delbert Ashley, 56, of Bellows Falls pleaded innocent to a misdemeanor count of simple assault on emergency room personnel. Ashley was on a gurney in the ER while two nurses talked him through a catheter insertion, police said. Nurse Pamela Crosby told police that as the other nurse inserted the medical device, Ashley grabbed Crosby’s forearm and yelled, “I am going to kill you! Someone has to die!” “He was attempting to push one of his hands up and pull the other one down with incredible strength,” Crosby said. “Several people arrived at the bed and attempted to calm the patient,” Crosby said. “He was still thrashing his legs, grabbing with his hands and using his head to head-butt staff members (until) he was restrained medically and physically.” Police said Crosby suffered a bruised wrist.
