Springfield, VT - Hearts of Hope 2013, a project of the volunteers of Springfield Hospital, raised almost $5,000 towards the purchase of items for the support and comfort of patients at the Hospital’s Oncology Clinic. The campaign is also a way to remember a loved one, a friend, a co-worker, or someone battling cancer in a very special way. For contributions of $10 or more, a personalized hand-made ornament is placed on a holiday tree at Springfield Hospital.
On December 9TH, a tree dedication ceremony was held in the cafeteria at Springfield Hospital. In addition to a light meal, the evening’s program included Dr. Mary Chamberlin and Verandah Porche reading from the new book, "Ordinary Mystery", a collection of poetry and writings written by cancer patients and staff at Springfield Hospital. Also, Patty Carpenter led the group in carols and clinic staff read the names of the people who were honored or remembered.
The tree is now on display in the main lobby of Springfield Hospital. More than 200 hand made ornaments, felt hearts with embroidered snowflakes, may be picked up by donors to the campaign. For information, contact Sandy Peplau, Coordinator of the Volunteer Services Program, 802-885-7686. ###
