Springfield's annual Town Meeting was held tonight in the Springfield High School cafeteria. In this photo, a group of student singers and musicians perform the state song, "These Green Mountains" before Town Moderator Patrick Ankuda gets things down to business.
All five members of the Select Board were present along with the Town Manager, the new Town Clerk and three of five School Directors. Superintendent of Schools Zach Mclaughlin and School District's Director of Fiscal Services Stephen Hier sat with the School Directors.
Several citizens were permitted to make comments and ask questions, all of which were mostly positive. Alan Lockwood was the most negative, bringing up the pothole problem. He thought it was crazy how road crews patch the holes in the fall only for the patches to get plowed out into ditches when the winter snowplows come.
School Board Chairman Jeanice Garfield said they cut 21 positions in the school district to trim the school budget down. This year the School Board members have elected to forego their usual $500 a year stipend. Board member Laura Ryan had suggested giving that up in light of having to let go 21 employees of the School District.

DeleteSeveral citizens were permitted to make comments and ask questions...BUT Alan Lockwood was singled out in the article because he "was the most negative". Nice hatchet job by the reporter.
