Courtesy of June Hardy Sumner VIEW LARGE SPRINGFIELD, Vt. —Emergency workers rescued a man who became stranded in the middle of a treacherous section of river early Tuesday morning. MORE The Rutland Herald reports that Hartford's swiftwater rescue team and Springfield rescue workers were deployed to the scene. Tap here to view photos from the scene. The man was sitting on a small island in the middle of the river between the Springfield Health Center and Comtu Falls. Rescuers feared he may have had hypothermia. Firefighters were stationed on islands around him in the river. Rescuers reached the man around 9 a.m. Springfield police say they received a call reporting the man in the river around 8:22 a.m. Tuesday. The man was taken to the hospital.
