SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Members of the Vermont Drug Task Force, taking a 27-year-old Main Street man into custody last month on a sale of heroin charge, found him to be in possession of the stimulant drug known as “bath salts.” Task Force members, assisted by Springfield police, went to the home of Martin Gonyea, 33 Main St., on March 19 to take him into custody for the heroin charge, which stemmed from a controlled drug purchase in October 2013, according to release issued by state police. While searching Gonyea, investigators found a small amount of crystal powder inside a baggie in his waistband, state police said. Testing by the Vermont Forensic Lab revealed that the power contained a-Pyrrolidinopentiophenon. That substance, known as a-PVP, is classified as a stimulant drug and is known to be an ingredient in bath salts, state police said. Gonyea was cited to appear in Windsor County Superior Court Criminal Division on May 13, to answer to the two charges.
