U.S. Marshals Track Violent Vermont Fugitive to Massachusetts

For Immediate Release Contact: March 27, 2014 John Curtis, Deputy U.S. Marshal (802) 951-6271 U.S. Marshals Track Violent Vermont Fugitive to Massachusetts Burlington, VT - The U.S. Marshals Service Vermont Violent Offender Task Force (VVOTF) arrested a Vermont fugitive who was wanted for seven (7) counts of 1st Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Marijuana. Evan Cox, 28, of Springfield, Vermont was arrested in the early morning hours on Thursday, March 27, 2014 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts when located by Deputy U.S. Marshals, the Vermont State Police, the Massachusetts State Police, Berkshire County Drug Task Force and the Pittsfield Police Department. Cox has been on the run since February 2011 and his whereabouts have been unknown. A lengthy investigation was conducted by the U.S. Marshal Service Vermont Violent Offender Task Force, which led authorities to Pittsfield, Massachusetts. When Cox was apprehended, authorities also observed several handguns and drugs inside Cox’s residence. A thorough search was later conducted and uncovered three (3) loaded hand guns, two (2) bullet proof vests, one (1) vest with ceramic protection plates, a Kevlar helmet, a stun gun, several grams of crack cocaine, a large amount of marijuana, a large amount of PCP, digital scales, packaging material and approximately $30,000.00 in U.S. currency. In conjunction with the evidence and Cox’s arrest, Radell C. Johnson, 28, of New Haven Connecticut was also arrested on various state criminal charges. Cox was arraigned on Massachusetts State charges stemming from the items recovered and also as a Fugitive from Justice. Johnson was arraigned on Massachusetts State charges stemming from the items recovered. Cox’s arrest was a result of a culmination of investigative efforts by the U.S. Marshals VVOTF, the U.S. Marshals Service, District of Connecticut, the U.S. Marshals Service Western Massachusetts Fugitive Task Force, the Vermont State Police, Homeland Security Investigations and the Pittsfield Massachusetts Police Department.
