Suspects Arrested in Shooting Incident in Springfield, VT
Springfield, VT - 6/12/14 - The Vermont State Police continue to investigate the shooting incident in Springfield, VT tonight. Late last night law enforcement officials arrested Leon Jiggetts, age 26 of Newark, NJ; and Jabbar Chandler, age 33 of Charlestown, NH.
Jiggetts was arrested for Attempted 2nd degree murder and Burglary; and lodged at Southern Correctional Facility for lack of $250,000 bail. Jiggetts is scheduled to be arraigned today at 12:30 pm at the Windsor County Criminal Court in Hartford. Jiggetts faces additional charges of Sale of Heroin, stemming from an ongoing Vermont Drug Task Force investigation.
Chandler turned himself into police in Charlestown, NH last night. Chandler was lodged in NH as a fugitive and faces charges in VT directly related to this incident. Vermont State Police detectives have applied for an arrest warrant for Chandler on charges of Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment and Burglary. The attached mug shot is from a prior arrest in 2014 by Springfield PD.
A third suspect, identified as a 16 year old male juvenile has been questioned by police, as have a number of witnesses. Additional charges may be forthcoming. This remains an active investigation.
Joseph Atkinson, age 19 of Springfield sustained gunshot wound to torso; and continues to receive medical treatment at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Timothy Carleton, age 30 of Springfield, and Amanda Booker, age 24 of Springfield, were both treated and released from Springfield Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Update: Shooting Incident in Springfield, VT
Springfield, VT - 6/11/14 - The Vermont State Police continue to investigate the shooting incident in Springfield, VT tonight. Law enforcement officials have two suspects in custody and are questioning a third person of interest. Charges will be forthcoming.
At this time, there is no threat to public safety, as a result of this incident.
To clarify, three individuals are receiving medical treatment: one for a gunshot wound; and two other for non-life threatening injuries, which were not gunshot wounds. At the time of this release, current medical status of each patient is unknown.
Initial investigations indicate that the subjects involved were known to one another. It is believed that a confrontation occurred prior to the shooting near and within the residence at Summer Street in Springfield, VT.
No other details are available at this time, as this is an active and on-going investigation. We will release the identity of the suspects and victims as soon as possible, pursuant to the needs of the investigation. When updates are available, a press release will be issued.

Shooting Incident in Springfield, VT
Springfield, VT - 6/11/14 - The Vermont State Police received a call at approximately 3:35PM from the Springfield Police Department requesting assistance with a shooting incident at 47 Summer Street in Springfield, VT. Troopers with the Vermont State Police and detectives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded immediately to assist in the investigation. At approximately 5:30PM the Springfield Police requested the Vermont State Police to assume investigative responsibility for the incident.
Initial reports indicate that three subjects were shot and injured at the residence on Summer Street in Springfield. Two patients were transported to Springfield Hospital and one to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center; all to receive medical treatment. At the time of this release, current medical status of each patient is unknown.
Initial investigations indicate that the subjects involved were known to one another. One suspect is in custody. And law enforcement officials are looking to locate other persons of interest in this case. More details to follow, as needed.

ReplyDeleteIt is disgusting to see what these dealers are doing to our town and its residents. I am sickened knowing that the town people used to bring their kids to so they would have a better life is now just as bad as the places parents moved them away from.

When people report things over and over without any real results, eventually they give up.

It's hard to serve and protect the citizens of this town from drug dealers, when the some of the citizens of this town serve and protect the dealers!!!! The police made one mistake years ago when they busted all the people who sold weed. It made way for the coke epidemic, which turned into the pill epidemic, which spawned the heroin epidemic. Should have just left the potheads alone
ReplyDeleteSorry to say your gross oversimplification of the alleged root cause is exceedingly naïve, and erroneous. Illicit profits, a very sound demand, and lax law enforcement are the driving factors here.
DeleteIt is that simple, 40 plus years of the war on pot and we now have a heroin epidemic. Keep on listening to the people who tell you pot is bad for you as your watching all these world class athletes performing everyday in our country.
