VTel, off-grid couple can’t connect on phone power

For Paul and Karen Schofield, living off the grid is an important choice, central to their desire to minimize their impact on the land and environment.

  3. If you are iff the grid, you are off the grid. Would it be fair to demand that Verizon be required to "beam" a signal to this home at additional expense? When you choose to live off the grid, there are plusses and minuses. zif you want to be on the grid, pay for it. Why should VTel or any other company or person have to pay for an antiquated low output generator? buy a new generator or do without a phone.

  4. It's 8 watts - eight. Even a small well pump (which they already have, and generate power for) is 1000 watts. If you can't add 8 watts to your existing 1000 watt system, you are doing something seriously wrong.

  5. You made YOUR choice. Why should anyone need to pay for your choice?

  6. You want to be off-grid then do without, you want to be on-grid then pay for services like the rest of us do.
