Published July 10, 2014 in the Rutland Herald Teen gets jail for SHS computer thefts By ERIC FRANCIS HERALD CORRESPONDENT WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A former Springfield High School student made a plea deal in a case charging him with stealing more than a dozen computers, iPads, cameras and other electronic devices from the school. Kyle Scott, 19, will spend a week in jail under a plea agreement reached Tuesday in White River Junction criminal court. He must also undergo screening for substance abuse and stay off all school properties in Springfield. Scott pleaded no contest to a felony burglary charge and guilty to a misdemeanor charge of petty larceny. He received a total of 3½ years, all suspended on probation except for one week to be served later this month. Court records say Springfield High School custodian Bruce Merriam found a window to the school’s “IT room” had been smashed June 4, 2013. He determined that more than $8,000 in computers, electronic gear, cash and a staff member’s bottle of cologne were taken. The next day, police said, the school’s IT director, Christopher Moody, noticed that one of the stolen MacBook latops automatically connected to the school’s computer server to check for updates. Police got a subpoena for an Internet service provider’s records and determined that the laptop had connected to the Internet from an address on Stanley Road in Springfield. Officers searched the home and court records said they found one of the missing computers, complete with Springfield High School identification on it, in Scott’s bedroom. Police said Scott claimed he had no idea the computer and other items found in his bedroom were stolen. But police said they discovered that Scott and another teen, who has since moved from the area, had been selling off the stolen items.
He will never get a job working in the IT field !!
ReplyDeleteProbably will continue his work in the Criminal Field, but on the wrong side of the law. Unless Buba gives him a weeks course in the field of Jail Time.
3 1/2 years sounded about right, but having it all suspended except for a week vacation in Jail, for stealing all of that from the people of Springfield? What the heck?
ReplyDeleteHey, it was only a felony.
DeleteAmazing! He doesn't even have to pay for equipment he stole and made a profit on. How about the cost of repairing the damage he did to steal the computers?
ReplyDeleteBut he is such a nice little boy. He said he did not know how the stuff got in his bedroom. The tooth fairy, or maybe the Easter bunny put it there and left a note telling him to sell it. Judge Carroll will believe that and send him to bed WITH milk and cookies.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't do it alone. Is he that dumb to take the wrap?
ReplyDeleteThe other kid that did it with him fleed the state with moneyfrom tthe electronics they sold so they won't catch him
DeleteMake him get down on his hands and knees and remove all the grass growing in the cracks of the sidewalks near the high school. ALL of it.
ReplyDeleteA week's jail time for $8000 of stolen equipment? Sheesh, I have to spend 3 months working IT at the office to get that much (takehome - pretty sure he ain't paying taxes on that). His jail time should be at LEAST as much as that. Or, maybe I'm just in the wrong IT business.
ReplyDeleteYour 110% right but I know this kid he has gotten away with many things and will keep getting away with them over and over again he'll never stop doing this
Delete@2:10, I was actually told by the victims advocate people who contacted me after some vandalism and theft done to my business that "that's what you have insurance for"
ReplyDeleteHe'll get away with all crimes he does with a slap on the wrist its always been like that for him so it doesn't surprise me that he only got this little for what happened
