Area softball game will benefit charity
SPRINGFIELD — A benefit softball game will be held Aug. 14, to benefit the winning team’s charity of choice.
The Springfield Rotary Club has challenged the Springfield Lions Club to the softball call, which will be held, starting at 6 p.m., at Riverside softball field.
A former tradition is being revived, and the two clubs have been lining up their teams and having a practice or two, said Carol Cole, president of the Springfield Rotary Club.
For many years, the benefit game used the proceeds from its goodwill donation to the Jimmy Fund, but this year the donations will be given to the charity of the winning team’s choice.
