90-day extension granted on demolition order

The new owners of a house in North Springfield have been given a three month extension to the demolition order on the property.

At Monday's Springfield Selectboard meeting, the board ruled that the couple that purchased the property be given a 90-day grace period. If they manage to make significant improvements to the structure of the house by July 30, the demolition order will be lifted.

The house is located at 129 Tarbell Road.

  1. Can't imagine why anyone wouldn't think this to be downright homey, why it exudes ambience. Couple nails and a hammer it will be downright beautiful.

  2. Let's hope this charming home brightens up the neighborhood of the NOSAGgers. If so, grant it permanent immunity from destruction!

  3. Let's get real with the comments folks; the Selectboard has done the responsible thing here allowing the new owners' a reasonable amount of time to start getting this property turned around. As I have stated in this forum before regarding this property, I do not find the former mortgage holder's statement that they didn't know about the demolition order to be credible. That's something that the Town Manager and the Selectboard should be following up on.

    1. Entirely irresponsible of the Selectboard. Abutting property owners and the community in general have endured this eyesore long enough. Such dilapidated properties and the low lifes occupying them are a root element in the town's ongoing demise.

On several occasions I've had a promising candidate travel here for an interview. Once they get a "feel" for the community any thought of relocating to this fetid rat hole is quickly dismissed.

But the hell with it. The spineless dolts of the Selectboard were freely elected so I'll inevitably do like every other technology sector employer and pack up for greener pastures. Good luck packing rutabagas and eviscerating poultry for a living.

  4. Who was the realtor? Don't you need to have an inspection prior to sale?

  6. I am the new owner and i was never told by the realtor nor the seller that it was on the demo list. If i had known i wouldn't of purchased the house... Everyone needs to know its going to take me time to do the repairs. Im planning on repairing the structure first. Please be patient And it will look nicer. Thank you

    1. Good luck on your repair work. Certainly if you are able to repair the house to good condition, that will be much better than just tearing it down. The town should give you the time needed.

As to the comments by some on here about this being an eyesore to neighbors--I just looked at the Google Street View of the place, and it appears rather isolated. It doesn't appear to be close enough to other houses to be much of a problem in that regard.

So, welcome to our town. We need more people wanting to fix things up, rather than just tear them down.

    1. Could you please disclose the name of the real estate agent and bank who were involved in this transaction.

    2. Why do you need this information?

    3. I think John Dalton asked for this information because the both the bank and the real estate agent either knew, or should have known, about the demolition order. This means they acted in a very irresponsible and unprofessional manner. So others in this town who might find themselves doing business with them should know what their getting into. They shouldn't get anonymity.
