By Liz Strzepa Residents are 'Springfield Strong' after shooting Springfield community members gathered April 22 to discuss plans to move forward UPDATED 8:38 PM EDT Apr 22, 2015 Police said Wing was shot near South Street by suspected shooter Gregory Smith. Many residents were emotional talking about how the tragedy affected them. Resident Sabrina Smith said, "I didn't know the family at all but I felt some kind of connection and I just...my heart went out to them." Stephanie Thompson, director of Project Action, said the community needs to continue to support each other. "Nobody can do it alone, we are stronger together. Even in the face of this tragedy, we must focus on the positive and persevere," Thompson said. The community meeting in Springfield comes less than 24 hours after an arrest was made in connection to shooting suspect Gregory Smith. 29-year-old Kristin Walsh was arrested on April 21 and charged with two felonies: delaying prosecution of Smith and purposely attempting to cause witnesses to withhold information from police. Rebecca Allamby, Walsh's roommate, said Walsh is innocent. "Kristen out of all people, the last person who deserves anything, has to be the one in trouble," Allamby said. Allamby's mother, Joann Martin, urged Smith to turn himself in. "Kristin's in jail for nothing, for no reason so please Greg, let her come home. Turn yourself in," Martin said. Despite Smith being on the run, Springfield community members said they felt a sense of closeness coming together on April 22. Many said they are determined to overcome. Jenevieve Johnson of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce said, "this is how we show that we're Springfield Strong, and its how we respond to everything. If we all go out there and have a positive attitude I think we can really be the difference." The Springfield Community said they're working on reaching out to the Wing family to include them in the healing process. There is a Go Fund Me account set up for the Wing family.
