And he was right as the Terriers scored on six of their first seven possessions in routing the Cosmos 48-0 Friday night at Brown Field. “We’re a team learning to play football,” said Saypack. “This is why we didn’t want to play BF so early. They came in here knowing they were going to win, we came in hoping to win.” The game drew an enormous crowd with people having to park their cars in a plaza parking lot and a nearby MacDonald’s and make the long trek through Riverside Park to Brown Field. One of the veteran ticket takers set it was the largest crowd she had even seen. Many of the people were still in line to buy tickets when BF quickly shut down Springfield in its first possession and got a punt return to the Cosmos 20 from Chris McKeen and four plays later got a touchdown from Jahyde Bullard that started the ball rolling as touchdowns followed from Jacob Lober, Logan Cota and Shane Clark, and it was 28-0 at the half. “There’s lots of thing we can fix,” said BF coach Bob Lockerby, “but I’m pretty happy with what happened here tonight. We tried to set the tempo and control the line of scrimmage and I think we did that, but you know it was still weird to play this game as the first game of the season.” Bullard scored two more times in the second half and Mckeen scored as well as the Terriers put a wrap on its opener.Saypack said he was appreciative of the huge crowd that turned out,”but they are going to have to patient with us,” he said. Bellows Falls has its home opener next Friday, hosting Mount Abre while Springfield is at MSJ Saturday.
