VTel and its $116 million Vt. promise: five years on, wireless push leaves many unconnected

In November 2010, Cavendish Town Manager Richard Svec sent a letter of “enthusiastic support” on behalf of VTel Wireless to Washington. The letter backed VTel’s application for federal stimulus money to build a fiber-optic telecommunications system in Springfield and a wireless broadband system throughout the state.

  1. As one of the (many) thousands of people waiting to get their fiber connection from VTel, I can certainly attest to the fact that the "One portion of VTel’s broadband project has been completed" - is in fact NOT completed. They may have run 1700 miles of fiber, but very few actual homes are connected to it.

  2. The solution is obvious...the elites need to be given more taxpayer dollars to bring the system up to standards and to provide more money in case they want to exhume a few more graveyards of Vermont's ancestors.

  4. It should be kept in mind (really, keep it in mind) that Mr. Guite is a sharp businessman.
