SPRINGFIELD — A house fire Monday night at 4 Harvard St. damaged an upstairs bedroom and its contents.
Firefighters were called out after 8:30 p.m. Deputy Fire Chief Scott Richardson said the fire is not believed to be suspicious, but its cause is under investigation.
The house is owned by Susan Fitzgerald, according to the Springfield town office.
Richardson, who left a Select Board meeting to coordinate the firefighting effort, said no one was hurt. Chief Russell Thompson stayed behind at the meeting to answer questions about his request for a second-hand rescue truck.
Richardson said the home’s occupants spent the night at the Holiday Inn in Springfield, but were expected to be able to return home Tuesday evening, once some electrical work was done to isolate the damaged bedroom and the water-damaged kitchen below.
He said fire crews were able to quickly knock down the fire.
Assisting Springfield at the scene were firefighters from Ascutney, Chester and Bellows Falls, while Charlestown, N.H., covered the vacant Springfield station.
