SPRINGFIELD, VT – Understanding Addiction, an upcoming community presentation, will be held at the Springfield Elks Club in Springfield, VT on Tuesday, October 13th at 6pm with featured guest speaker, Dr. W. Gordon Frankle. Dr. Frankle, Medical Director of Rutland Regional Medical Center’s West Ridge Center for Addition & Recovery, will discuss addiction, the role of treatment and medications in addressing addiction, and the value of a strong community support system, followed by a question and answer session. The event is free and open for everyone in the region to attend and is sponsored by Project Action, Springfield Medical Care Systems, Inc. and HCRS.
With the struggle of addiction rampant in many communities nationwide, Stephanie Thompson of Project ACTION, describes the importance of this community education event by stating, “Addiction is an illness and, as a community, we need to be more informed on the effects of addiction to better help and support our neighbors who are suffering.”
According to the 2014 Vermont Young Adult Survey of residents aged 18-25, 55% reported binge drinking in the past 30 days and in a nation-wide survey, in 2014, there were 212,000 people aged 12 or older who used heroin for the first time within the past year (National Survey on Drug Use and Health). With October being National Substance Abuse Prevention month, communities can learn more about the illness of addiction and what they can do to help those affected, in order to make their community a better place to live.
23 year old Jason M. Shaffer who also goes by the name of Todd Swan has a history of conning people out of money throughout Vermont. Avoid him and his hard luck stories or you may end up losing hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
