SPRINGFIELD — An elderly man received minor injuries after his truck rolled over a 10-foot embankment and nearly went into the Black River near the Springfield Senior Center on Saturday.
At approximately 12:35 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to the area of the bridge between Clinton Street and Main Street for what was reported as a vehicle in the river.
Upon arrival, officers saw a maroon Chevy Colorado on its side on the river bank below the Springfield Senior Center Parking lot.
The driver, 85-year-old William Buswell, was receiving first aid from two women and an older man who had arrived on scene.
According to officers on scene, Buswell did not seem impaired and did not have any serious injuries, stating that "he was moving" and "helped us pull him out."
Buswell was transported to Springfield Hospital ER by ambulance. According to police, Buswell was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
Vermont State Police responded to the call and controlled traffic over the bridge while crews worked to remove the vehicle from the river's edge. Fire crews from Springfield and Bellows Falls also responded.
