Published December 4, 2015 in the Rutland Herald Springfield crash sends six to hospitals By Susan Smallheer Staff Writer SPRINGFIELD – Six people were taken to hospitals Thursday night after two pickups collided head-on on River Street. The injured people were taken to Springfield Hospital and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Springfield fire officials said two of the people appeared to have serious injuries and the DHART airlift helicopter was called to transport them. The collision between the red Toyota pickup and the dark GMC pickup occurred on River Street between the Dunkin’ Donuts store and Austin Memorials. Each truck had extensive front-end damage. Springfield Fire Capt. Jim Benton said two people were in the Toyota pickup and four people were in the GMC, which had an extended cab. Police and fire officials closed River Street and brought in big lights to illuminate the crash scene as police investigated. Traffic was diverted behind River Street businesses. No additional information was available at press time.
