Proposed Springfield school budget at $28.3 M, includes staff cuts

The Springfield School District has proposed a total budget of $28,326,559, but it includes staff cuts of 19.5 positions, most of them teachers. “We’re opposed to the cuts,” said Kevin Coen, English teacher and head of the Springfield Teachers’ Association. “Making these cuts so quickly will hurt the students.”

Town of Springfield to save up to $100K

Springfield Town Manager Tom Yennerrell had some good news for the board of selectmen at its regular meeting on Monday evening: improvements in safety could cut the worker’s compensation premium by as much as $100,000.

Town, school budgets approved

Voters approved both the town and school budgets on Town Meeting Day Tuesday. The town’s $11.65 million budget with $9.6 million to be raised by taxes passed 781-435.

School district to eliminate 1 position due to budget constraints

After “shaking out” the cuts and retirements taking place in the Springfield School District for the upcoming year, the school district has a singular notification to make regarding a reduction in force (RIF) for the equivalent of one school staff position, according to Superintendent Zach McLaughlin.

Voters in Springfield approved all articles at the River Valley Technical Center (RVTC) School District Annual Meeting on Thursday, March 2 at the Howard Dean Education Center. The second part of that meeting, for general budget approval, has been recessed until March 7.
