Published December 5, 2015 in the Rutland Herald Woman charged in crash that injured six people By Susan Smallheer STAFF WRITER SPRINGFIELD — A 31-year-old Springfield woman has been charged with causing the head-on collision on River Street that sent six people to area hospitals Thursday night. Pamela Runnells, of 90 Main St., was charged with gross negligent operation with an accident resulting, according to Springfield Police Chief Douglas Johnston. He said Friday that while the investigation into the 6:43 p.m. accident on River Street was continuing, Runnells is charged with passing cars at the time of the crash. Johnston said Runnells was operating the Toyota pickup that collided with a GMC pickup with an extended cab, which had four occupants. Runnells had a passenger in the Toyota. Johnston said a total of six people were taken to area hospitals, and one person was airlifted by DHART medical helicopter to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. The rest of the injured people were taken to Springfield Hospital. Police shut down River Street, as Route 11 is locally known, for several hours Thursday night as the crash was investigated. Runnells was already due in court Tuesday for a case stemming from a fight in her apartment house next to the Springfield Town Hall. According to court documents, Runnells is charged with a felony for impeding a local police officer who was trying to take her boyfriend, Martin Gonyea, into custody. Runnells was also charged last year with stealing a piece of art from an exhibit at The Great Hall in Springfield. The artwork, a quilt, was recovered in Newport, N.H., and Runnells was arrested after surveillance video was reviewed. Officer Robert Kelcey, the investigating officer in the crash, said he didn’t have permission to release the names of the other five people sent to the hospital, or the driver of the other pickup. I hope she gets what she deserves. Pamela is another salt shaking dope fiend. Her apartment is a known drug den and she has already lost her children.
