They received their award at the chamber’s 100th year celebration and annual gala. — COURTESY SPRINGFIELD — HB Energy Solutions was named Organization of the Year by the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce (SRCC). The award was presented on March 5, at the Chamber’s 100th Year Celebration and Annual Dinner held at the Great Hall in Springfield. “I was pleasantly surprised. I had no idea we were under consideration,” said Tom Hernon, founder of the business. “It is nice to be recognized by our peers.” HB Energy Solutions has been in business 25 years, starting in Bellows Falls then opening an office in Springfield five years later in 1996 when the heating and energy contractor bought Springfield Plumbing & Heating, which had been in business since the 1920s. The company provides a full suite of residential and commercial offerings, including home heating oil and propane, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, solar, septic, and wood and pellet equipment. One of the core reasons for its nomination was for the support the business provides to organizations and events in Springfield, according to SRCC Director Caitlin Christiana. “They’re a beloved organization in the community,” she said. “They’re generous supporters of the community. They’re part of our holiday program. They fixed up the Santa House. They help with the decorating of the tree. “They are very involved with the Apple Festival, and are supporters of that,” Christiana continued. “For our 100th year celebration, Brian, Tom’s son, was a tireless contributor. His help was invaluable.” Brian Hernon is the Operations Manager at HB Energy Solutions. “We try to give back to the town, what we can, when we can,” said Tom. HB Energy supports a variety of area organizations and causes, including the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce, Springfield on the Move, Downtown Springfield Holiday Celebration, Springfield Regional Development Corporation, along with numerous local youth sports teams and clubs. Both Tom and Brian serve on local boards and committees, donating their time and resources in the community. “I donate resources — heating fuel, money, etc. Brian is the next generation. He has done much more than I have,” said Tom. “He puts up the Christmas decorations around town and is always contributing his time,” he continued. “It is encouraging to see more and more young professionals involved in traditional business organizations like the chamber and the [Springfield] Rotary Club.” It is this involvement that benefits the town, according to Hernon. “You see the same group of people involved in the chamber, Rotary Club, Springfield on the Move and the Springfield Regional Development Commission,” he said. “Springfield is fortunate to have these groups.” In keeping with its core principles of community service, HB Energy enables customers to select a charity or organization to receive some or all of their earned customer rewards. “We appreciate their support and are blessed to have them in the community,” said Christiana.
I love the flopper outfit! That is a nice touch.
