Out of 79 participants hailing from multiple countries, Springfield’s Bryn Hemmings placed second in his category in the Vermont International Russian Language Olympiada held at Lyndon State College (LSC) in Lyndon, Vermont this past May.

This spring was Bryn Hemmings’ last semester at Springfield High School and he went out in style. Hemmings was one of 79 participants in the Lyndon State College Russian Language Olympiada this past May 6, and he took 2nd place in the high school A2 “Russian Song” category. For his efforts, singing “If You See on the Painting,” Hemmings received a certificate from Alexandre A. Strokanov, director of the Institute of Russian Language, History and Culture at LSC. Participants in the contest hailed from Bulgaria, Serbia, China, Belorussia, Uzbekistan and Czech Republic, as well as from Alabama, Illinois, New Jersey, New Mexico, Texas, Vermont and Virginia, and they competed at 6 levels of Russian across 4 age groups and in 3 categories: “Declamation,” “Russian Song,” and “Essay.”
