Springfield may have suffered an even bigger loss heading into the playoffs when senior standout Makenna Goodrich went down with a foot or ankle injury early in the game. She didn't return. BBA fought off early pressure from the hosts, but was unable to score despite five penalty corners in a five-minute span of the game's first 1 minutes. Finally, with 16:41 left in the half, the Bulldogs' Chloe McDonald broke the deadlock with a left to right shot from 10 yards away. Springfield almost tied it 6:41 before the half, but the shot hit the left post, then missed another shot from close in with 2 ½ minutes left. BBA had a chance to go up 2-0 with eight seconds on the clock, but shot wide. The Bulldogs took advantage of their first corner opportunity six minutes into the second half as Hannah Hedberg scored at 23:24 to make it 2-0. The next 15 minutes would be a back-and-forth battle with the Cosmos finally putting the pressure on with 8 ½ minutes left in the game and then again near the 7-minute mark, but to no avail. With just over four minutes remaining, Angelina Bigwood and Emilia Battista crashed in on goal, but the Bulldog defense prevailed, preserving the shutout. The loss ended an eight-game streak in which Springfield went (7-0-1) and allowed just one goal. The Cosmos (8-4-1) should get the fourth seed and a home game to start the playoffs. BBA finished in sixth place at 6-5-3 and takes a three-game win streak into the postseason. Football Spaulding 42, Springfield 6 Three teams were mathematically alive for VPA Division 3 playoff spot when the weekend started, but the loss eliminated the Cosmos. Springfield finished the season with a 1-7 record.
